Program Information

The Automotive Science & Technology Program at Burlington Technical Center is a two-year program designed to prepare students for both college and career opportunities. The curriculum integrates Common Core and National Science Standards, focusing on the scientific principles that underlie the design, operation, and service of modern automobiles.

Program Length

The program runs for two years, meeting for just over two hours per day, five days per week. Students can earn the following high school credits:

  • Year 1: 2.0 Elective, 0.5 Science, 0.5 English
  • Year 2: 2.0 Elective, 0.5 Science, 0.5 English

What You’ll Learn

  • How engines work and how to troubleshoot common engine and fuel system problems
  • Vehicle manufacturer repair algorithms and diagnostics
  • Engine disassembly and component measurement with micrometers and dial indicators
  • Building and testing electrical circuits
  • Basic vehicle maintenance procedures
  • Operation of automotive equipment including lifts, wheel balancers, and alignment machines

Certifications & Enrichment Opportunities

Students may participate in additional training and certifications, including:

  • National Technical Honor Society
  • Pennzoil Information Program
  • Valvoline Motor Oil Basics
  • SP2 Certifications: Mechanical Safety, Pollution Prevention, and Ethics in the Automotive Industry
  • “Land That Job” Interview Skills for Automotive Students
  • ASE Automotive Service E-Learning & Student Certification

Qualified students may also earn college credits through partnerships with New Hampshire Technical College at Laconia and the University of Northwestern Ohio.
