Program Information

The Electrical Apprentice position with Legacy Electric LLC in Soldotna, Alaska offers a structured pathway into the commercial and industrial electrical trade, with a strong emphasis on real-world field experience across rural Alaska. As an apprentice, you will work under the guidance of licensed journeyman and senior electricians, assisting with the installation, alteration, addition, and repair of electrical systems on a variety of job sites. Projects may include commercial buildings, industrial facilities, remote infrastructure, and power distribution systems in challenging environments, giving you exposure to work conditions unique to Alaska.

From day one, apprentices are involved in core electrical tasks such as installing wiring, fixtures, outlets, switches, control devices, and lighting. You will help pull wire through conduit and walls, support the installation and testing of switchgear, panelboards, and power distribution equipment, and assist in system startup and troubleshooting. The role requires regular use of hand tools and power tools, so you will quickly become comfortable with drills, conduit benders, saws, testers, and other industry-standard equipment. In addition to technical skill-building, you will learn how to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand system layout and installation requirements.

Legacy Electric’s work frequently takes place in rural and remote parts of Alaska. The company provides transportation to these remote jobsites, and there may be opportunities for qualified apprentices to be assigned a company vehicle. This environment offers a unique chance to work on critical electrical infrastructure in small communities, often in demanding weather and terrain conditions. Apprentices are expected to be self-motivated, especially with regard to completing the online portion of their apprenticeship training and testing. The position emphasizes teamwork, communication, and the ability to accept feedback from experienced electricians, helping you grow both technically and professionally over the course of the program.

Safety and reliability are at the center of the apprenticeship. You will be trained to follow job site safety procedures, maintain tools and equipment in good condition, help with loading and unloading materials, and support efficient daily operations. Many projects qualify for Davis-Bacon pay rates, which can significantly enhance earnings for work on qualifying public or government-related projects. By the end of the four-year period, apprentices will have built a strong foundation in commercial and industrial electrical work, positioning them to pursue journeyman licensing and long-term employment in the electrical industry.

Program Length

4-year apprenticeship combining full-time, paid on-the-job training with an online and field-based educational component.

Program Requirements

• Valid driver’s license
• Flexibility and willingness to travel to remote areas of Alaska
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, and climbing ladders and stairs
• Capability to routinely lift, push, and pull objects in excess of 50 pounds
• Basic understanding of electrical principles and a strong desire to learn more
• Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions on outdoor job sites
• Self-motivation to complete online apprenticeship coursework and testing on schedule
• Ability to accept constructive feedback, follow directions, and function effectively as part of a team
• Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred, but a willingness to learn is also acceptable

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly wage range: approximately $25.00–$35.00, depending on experience and progression
