Program Information

Fargo‑Moorhead Area Carpenters JATC offers a highly specialized Millwright apprenticeship that trains apprentices to install, align, maintain, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical systems. As a millwright apprentice, you will develop precision‑based skills that surpass traditional trades — working on rotating shafts, conveyors, pumps, turbines, engines, gearboxes and large‑scale industrial equipment. The role requires excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and mastery of measurement techniques often requiring alignment tolerances within thousands of an inch.

This apprenticeship blends classroom education with hands‑on field training. In the classroom portion, apprentices study blueprint reading, mechanical systems theory, hydraulics, pneumatics, rigging, hoisting, welding, and OSHA safety standards. On the job‑site, they work under seasoned journeymen on manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, food‑processing lines, and heavy construction sites. This dual‑path approach ensures graduates are not only skilled but highly employable in sectors where downtimes cost operations hundreds of dollars per minute.
