Program Information
The Glaziers Apprenticeship Program of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 10 trains individuals to become specialists in the installation and repair of glass, aluminum, and curtain wall systems used in modern construction. Apprentices gain the skills necessary to install storefronts, windows, skylights, glass walls, and mirrors, as well as specialized architectural glass and glazing systems.
Through structured classroom and field instruction, apprentices master techniques for measuring, cutting, and fitting glass using both traditional and high-tech tools. The training also includes instruction on blueprint reading, sealant application, and the installation of energy-efficient glazing systems designed to meet modern sustainability standards.
Program Length
Three-year apprenticeship including 4,800 hours of supervised jobsite experience and 432 classroom hours. Apprentices train year-round to maintain continuous skill development and proficiency.

Certifications & Career Opportunities
Graduates become journeyman glaziers and may pursue careers with glass fabrication companies, construction contractors, or maintenance teams for high-rise buildings. Certifications include OSHA 30, aerial lift safety, and glass handling safety. Experienced glaziers often advance into supervisory or project management roles.
Program Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Letter of intent to hire from a contractor preferred
- Pass physical and safety screening
Compensation & Benefits
Apprentices earn 65% of journeyman pay with scheduled increases, full health insurance, pension, and training benefits. The program is tuition-free and offers lifelong career support for graduates.
