Program Information
The IBEW Local 444 Electrical Apprenticeship prepares individuals for a rewarding and high-demand career in the electrical construction industry. Based in Lawton, Oklahoma, this joint training program is operated in partnership with NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) and offers comprehensive instruction in electrical theory, safety standards, and hands-on fieldwork.
The curriculum is designed to ensure apprentices become skilled in every aspect of the trade — from reading blueprints and installing conduit to troubleshooting electrical systems in both commercial and industrial settings. Classroom instruction is supplemented with extensive on-the-job training alongside experienced journeymen, fostering a well-rounded education grounded in real-world work environments.
Program Length
This is a five-year program requiring a minimum of 8,000 hours of paid, on-the-job training and at least 900 hours of classroom instruction. Classes typically occur once or twice per week in the evenings, allowing apprentices to work full-time during the day.

Certifications & Career Opportunities
Graduates are prepared to become licensed journeyman electricians. Career opportunities include commercial and industrial electrical contracting, renewable energy systems, instrumentation, and project supervision.
Program Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of high school algebra (or equivalent)
- Valid driver’s license
- Pass an aptitude test and interview
Compensation & Benefits
Apprentices begin earning a percentage of a journeyman’s wage, with increases every six months as benchmarks are met. Participants receive full health insurance, pension, and retirement benefits while completing the program. There are no tuition costs; the program is funded by union and employer contributions.
