Program Information

IBEW Local 490 offers a comprehensive apprenticeship program through its Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC). This program is designed to develop skilled electricians through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Key features include:

• On-the-Job Training: Apprentices accumulate 8,000 hours of practical experience under the supervision of experienced journeypersons, working on diverse construction projects throughout New Hampshire and Southern York County, Maine. This hands-on training encompasses commercial, industrial, power generation, and green energy projects such as wind and solar installations.
• Classroom Instruction: In addition to fieldwork, apprentices complete 900 hours of classroom education with qualified instructors. Classes are held from 5 PM to 9 PM on designated weekdays (Monday through Thursday) at the IBEW Local 490 JATC Training Center in Concord, NH. The curriculum covers electrical theory, safety protocols, and the National Electrical Code.

Program Length

The apprenticeship is structured as a four-year program, integrating both on-the-job training and classroom instruction to ensure apprentices develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become proficient electricians.
