Program Information

The IBEW Local 584 Tulsa Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) offers one of the most respected and comprehensive electrical training programs in Oklahoma. Designed for individuals pursuing a long-term career in the electrical trade, the apprenticeship combines rigorous classroom instruction with thousands of hours of paid, real-world training alongside licensed journeyman electricians. Apprentices gain experience working on residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems across major construction sites in the Tulsa region, learning how to safely and effectively install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical equipment and infrastructure.

The curriculum includes a deep foundation in electrical theory, covering AC/DC principles, Ohm’s Law, power distribution, transformers, motors, and grounding. Apprentices receive detailed training in blueprint reading, conduit bending, wiring methods, control systems, programmable logic controllers, and National Electrical Code requirements. Courses are taught by highly experienced instructors who ensure each apprentice understands both theoretical concepts and how they apply to real jobsite conditions.

Hands-on jobsite training is a central component of the program. Apprentices work full-time with signatory contractors, completing tasks such as pulling wire, installing conduit systems, setting panels, wiring devices, performing terminations, installing lighting systems, configuring motor controls, and assisting in large-scale construction projects. They also work on specialized installations involving energy management systems, fire alarm systems, backup power, renewable energy technologies, and industrial automation. Safety remains a core focus throughout training, with instruction covering OSHA standards, lockout/tagout procedures, ladder and lift operation, electrical hazard identification, and proper use of personal protective equipment.

The Tulsa Electrical JATC emphasizes professionalism, work ethic, reliability, and skill mastery. Apprentices are trained to communicate effectively with project managers, foremen, inspectors, and other tradespeople. As they advance through the program, apprentices receive scheduled wage increases reflecting their growing knowledge and responsibility, making the apprenticeship an ideal option for individuals seeking income while learning a complex, in-demand trade.

Upon successful completion, apprentices earn journeyman-level certification, positioning them for high-paying roles in electrical contracting, industrial maintenance, instrumentation, facilities operations, renewable energy installation, and electrical construction. Many graduates later pursue supervisory positions, estimating roles, project management, or specialized electrical system work. The strong reputation of both IBEW Local 584 and the Tulsa JATC ensures that graduates are highly sought after by employers throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding region.
