Program Information
IUOE Local 57 offers a comprehensive Apprenticeship & Skill Improvement Program designed to train individuals in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment used in the construction industry. Programs Offered
- Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship Program: Training in the operation of various types of heavy machinery, including cranes, bulldozers, excavators, and loaders.
- Skill Improvement Courses: Ongoing training for journeymen to enhance skills and stay updated with industry standards.
Program Length
The apprenticeship program spans three years and includes:
- 6,000 hours of on-the-job training
- Related classroom instruction covering equipment operation, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures
Certifications & Career Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices attain journeyman status, qualifying them for various roles in the construction industry. Certifications earned may include OSHA safety certifications and equipment-specific licenses. Program Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- Provide a birth certificate and Social Security card
- Submit three signed letters of reference (not from family members)
- Veterans should provide a copy of their DD-214
