Program Information

New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) offers an advanced Welding Engineering and Technology program designed to prepare students for a variety of welding and metal fabrication careers. The program integrates technical theory with extensive hands-on training in NEIT’s state-of-the-art welding labs. Students learn how to interpret blueprints, read welding symbols, and safely operate professional-grade equipment across a variety of welding processes used in today’s industries.

The curriculum emphasizes skill development in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Oxy-Fuel welding, as well as fabrication, layout, and inspection techniques. Students gain the knowledge required to work in industrial, manufacturing, construction, and shipbuilding environments.

Hands-On Training

Students train using modern welding booths and advanced tools to build practical expertise. Core training areas include:

  • MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
  • Stick (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding
  • Oxy-Acetylene welding, brazing, and cutting
  • Blueprint interpretation and fabrication layout
  • Metallurgy and welding inspection techniques
  • Welding safety, ventilation, and personal protective equipment (PPE)

Program Length

  • Associate of Science in Welding Engineering Technology: Approximately 18 months (full-time)

Certifications & Career Opportunities

  • Students are prepared to earn certifications through the American Welding Society (AWS)
