Program Information

The Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program provides hands-on training for individuals interested in operating heavy machinery such as cranes, bulldozers, and excavators. Apprentices receive both classroom instruction and on-the-job training in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety standards. The program also includes training in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems found in heavy equipment.

Participants will gain the skills to operate a wide variety of machines, ensuring they’re ready to work on construction sites, mining operations, and infrastructure projects.

Program Length

3-4 years (includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training)

Program Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Physical stamina and mechanical aptitude
