Program Information

The Electrical Technology program at Southwest Alabama Community College is designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills necessary for a career in the electrical industry. The program covers a range of electrical concepts, including:

  • Residential Wiring: Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of home electrical systems.
  • Commercial Electrical Systems: Learning how to wire and maintain electrical systems in office buildings and commercial spaces.
  • Industrial Electrical Systems: Training in high-voltage applications, automation, and motor controls used in factories and industrial settings.

Program Length

The program offers two different academic tracks:

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree: Typically takes 2 years to complete, offering more in-depth coursework and advanced electrical skills.

Upon completion, students are prepared to enter the electrical workforce and may pursue industry-recognized certifications, including:

  • OSHA 10 or 30 Safety Certifications
  • Journeyman Electrician Licensure (after required field experience)
