Traveling Data Center Apprentice Electrician – $140 Daily Per Diem
Program Information
Kidwell, Inc. is hiring Traveling Mission Critical (Data Center) Apprentice Electricians to support large-scale data center projects beginning in the Kansas City market, with future travel to additional data center locations nationwide. This role is open to both entry-level apprentices and experienced electrical apprentices seeking exposure to high-demand, mission critical electrical infrastructure.
Apprentices represent Kidwell directly on active job sites and work alongside journeyman electricians, cabling teams, and special systems technicians in fast-paced, safety-driven environments.
Mission Critical Electrical Training
This apprenticeship focuses on commercial and industrial electrical systems specific to data center construction. Apprentices gain hands-on experience installing power distribution systems, conduit, wiring, fixtures, and electrical support systems that require precision, organization, and strict adherence to safety standards.
Entry-level apprentices participate in Kidwell’s structured training program, while experienced apprentices receive guided development through a dedicated Development Coordinator as they prepare for journeyman advancement.
Travel & Work Environment
This is a traveling position requiring a minimum initial commitment of three to four months in the Kansas City market, followed by travel to other data center locations. Apprentices must be willing to work extended schedules, including overtime, Saturdays, and occasional Sundays.
Projects are performed in controlled construction environments with strict OSHA compliance and project-specific safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Assist journeyman electricians with the installation and repair of electrical wiring, conduit, fixtures, and equipment. Daily tasks include measuring, cutting, bending, and pulling wire and conduit, drilling penetrations, installing fixtures, performing basic electrical metering and troubleshooting, and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
Apprentices may also assist cabling and special systems teams with low-voltage systems such as CCTV, access control, audio-visual systems, and nurse call systems as needed.
Compensation & Per Diem
This position offers competitive hourly pay with overtime opportunities, along with a $140 daily per diem while traveling. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid vacation, holidays, parental leave, tool and clothing stipends, and a 401(k) with company match.
Program Requirements
- Current Nebraska Electrical Apprentice License (or ability to obtain prior to start)
- Commercial or industrial electrical experience preferred but not required
- Mission critical or data center experience preferred but not required
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- Ability to pass physical exam, drug screening, and background check
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
