Apprentice linemen work under the guidance of experienced journeymen, gaining advanced hands-on experience in all phases of line work and system operations.
This apprenticeship-level position involves rigorous, safety-focused training in pole and tower climbing, hot-line tool use, aerial lift operation, equipment installation, and underground residential distribution installations. Apprentices learn to interpret electrical blueprints and system diagrams, identify primary and secondary voltages, understand induced voltage, and use proper grounding procedures. The program emphasizes high-voltage safety, system troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and following all company and DOT regulations.
Apprentices attend IPSA Apprentice Schooling while logging and submitting monthly on-the-job and classroom hours. They gain exposure to power transmission systems, power distribution components, switching procedures, and substation equipment. The role also involves pre-job briefing participation, equipment inspections, and assisting with mentoring less experienced crew members. Hunt Electric expects all apprentices to demonstrate strong physical endurance, the ability to lift 100 pounds, work at significant heights, and perform tasks in all weather conditions on active construction sites.

Program Length

Program Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in or previously attended a certified Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Program (documentation required)
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with ability to meet DOT driving requirements
- 21 years or older for interstate CDL operation
- CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Ability to lift 100 pounds and work at heights (tower and pole climbing)
- Willingness to travel for extended periods
- Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics
- Experience with equipment installation, electrical diagnostics, and high-voltage troubleshooting
