High Voltage Apprentice Lineman – Hunt Electric (Salt Lake City, UT)
Program Information
The High Voltage Apprentice Lineman position at Hunt Electric is designed for individuals already enrolled in or attending a certified Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Program, with three to four years of field experience. This role supports Hunt Electric’s Transmission and Distribution Division, which is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage electrical transmission lines, distribution networks, and substation systems across the Intermountain West. Apprentice linemen work under the guidance of experienced journeymen, gaining advanced hands-on experience in all phases of line work and system operations.
This apprenticeship-level position involves rigorous, safety-focused training in pole and tower climbing, hot-line tool use, aerial lift operation, equipment installation, and underground residential distribution installations. Apprentices learn to interpret electrical blueprints and system diagrams, identify primary and secondary voltages, understand induced voltage, and use proper grounding procedures. The program emphasizes high-voltage safety, system troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and following all company and DOT regulations.
Apprentices attend IPSA Apprentice Schooling while logging and submitting monthly on-the-job and classroom hours. They gain exposure to power transmission systems, power distribution components, switching procedures, and substation equipment. The role also involves pre-job briefing participation, equipment inspections, and assisting with mentoring less experienced crew members. Hunt Electric expects all apprentices to demonstrate strong physical endurance, the ability to lift 100 pounds, work at significant heights, and perform tasks in all weather conditions on active construction sites.
Hunt Electric is an established electrical, technology, and infrastructure contractor with licenses in multiple states. With in-house engineering, design-build services, prefabrication capabilities, and specialized divisions, the company provides a comprehensive career pathway for individuals in the utility and high-voltage sectors. Apprentice linemen gain real-world experience with a leader in utility construction, making this role an important development step toward journeyman status and long-term career growth in linework and electrical infrastructure.
