Program Information
The Independent Electrical Contractors Association of Northern Ohio (IEC-NO) offers a comprehensive 4-year Registered Electrical Apprenticeship Program. Apprentices are hired by one of more than 32 participating electrical contractor members and receive industry-recognized training that combines classroom education with extensive hands-on fieldwork. Graduates of this program complete the requirements to become certified Journeymen Electricians in the state of Ohio.
This apprenticeship is well-suited for individuals seeking stable, long-term careers in the electrical trade. Apprentices learn installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments—all while earning competitive wages.
Program Length
4 years, including on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
Program Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Basic math proficiency and willingness to learn electrical concepts
Preferred Skills
- Experience in electrical or construction work (not required)
- OSHA or first-aid certifications are beneficial
- Ability to work carefully, safely, and with attention to detail
Compensation
Starting wages range from $11.23 to $22.45 per hour, depending on experience, employer, and skill level. Apprentices earn wage increases as they progress through the program and demonstrate competency.
Location
Cleveland, OH — on-site with contractor member companies throughout the Northern Ohio region.
