Program Information
The Jacksonville Plumbers & Pipefitters Joint Apprenticeship & Training Trust (UA Local 234) offers a highly respected, industry-recognized apprenticeship program that prepares individuals for long-term careers in the pipe trades. Apprentices receive paid on-the-job training, structured classroom instruction, and full union benefits while working toward journeyman status. Participants earn high wages, college credit hours, and gain access to steady employment opportunities through the union’s contractor network.
This apprenticeship provides training in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, and related mechanical systems across residential, commercial, and industrial job sites. Apprentices earn incremental wage increases every six months, provided satisfactory progress is maintained both in the classroom and on the job.
Applications for the 2026 apprenticeship year open January 5 and close April 10, 2026 at 4:30 PM. All applications must be submitted electronically, and required documents such as official transcripts must be mailed or delivered in person. Seniors who have not graduated may apply by submitting a letter of intent to graduate from their school on official letterhead.
Applicants may also complete applications at designated training center locations during scheduled hours. For those seeking immediate work experience, the union hall offers a referral questionnaire to get on the work list, which is recommended even before acceptance into the apprenticeship program.

Minimum Requirements
- 18 years of age by the start of apprenticeship
- Government-issued proof of age
- High school diploma and official transcript OR official GED certificate and test scores
- Seniors may submit a letter stating they are on track to graduate
- DD214 for veterans (if applicable)
- $10 application fee (money order, cashier’s check, or card only)
- Ability to pass aptitude testing
- Physically capable of performing trade-related work
- Ability to pass a substance abuse test if accepted
- Agree to comply with all program standards and remedial instruction requirements
