Program Information
LIUNA Local 271 offers a comprehensive Construction Craft Laborer Apprenticeship Program through the New England Laborers’ Training Academy (NELTA). This “earn-while-you-learn” program combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction, preparing individuals for careers in the construction industry.

Program Length
The apprenticeship program consists of:
- 320 hours of classroom instruction
- 4,000 hours of on-the-job training (3,000 hours for veterans)
Classroom training is provided at no cost, and apprentices receive a stipend during training sessions.
Certifications & Career Opportunities
Upon completion, apprentices attain journeyman status, qualifying them for various roles in the construction industry. Certifications earned include OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and other trade-specific credentials. Career opportunities span across commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects.
Program Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- Have reliable transportation
- Be physically capable of performing construction work
- Pass a drug screening test

Financial Aid & Support Services
The apprenticeship program is tuition-free. Apprentices receive stipends during classroom training and earn wages during on-the-job training, with periodic increases based on hours worked. Additional benefits include health insurance, pension plans, and access to union resources.
