Job Description

Matrix Service is seeking a Laborer Apprentice to join its team in Bellingham, Washington. This apprenticeship-level position is designed for individuals looking to build a long-term career in industrial and heavy construction while receiving hands-on training under the supervision of experienced foremen and journeypersons. As a Laborer Apprentice, you will play a critical role in supporting construction, maintenance, and industrial service projects while learning essential trade skills in a safety-focused environment.

This role offers a structured apprenticeship program that can last up to three years, combining on-the-job experience with required classroom instruction. Apprentices gain exposure to a wide range of construction activities, including site preparation, material handling, excavation, concrete work, demolition, and general labor tasks. Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the direct supervision of a foreman and journeyperson to complete assigned tasks
  • Assist with site preparation, material handling, and general construction activities
  • Support excavation, trenching, and grading tasks while following safety standards
  • Learn and assist with rigging, signaling, and flagging for heavy-construction lifts
  • Identify and report hazardous materials to maintain a safe and compliant job site
  • Support concrete and asphalt preparation, placement, and finishing
  • Assist with demolition, weatherization, and structural protection tasks
  • Participate in asbestos and lead abatement procedures when required
  • Learn to properly select and use hand tools and power tools
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Attend required apprenticeship classes throughout the duration of the program
  • Complete company, site-specific, and process safety training

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Zero to three years of refinery maintenance or related experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must obtain and maintain a TWIC card
  • Must complete required drug testing and background checks
  • Completion of high-hazard facility safety training required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and long shifts
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to safety
