Program Information
The New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center (CTC) offers comprehensive apprenticeship programs in six trades approved by the New York State Department of Labor. These trades include:
- General Carpenters
- Floor Coverers
- Millwrights
- Cabinetmakers
- High-Rise Concrete Carpenters
- Dockbuilder/Timbermen
Each apprenticeship combines in-classroom instruction with on-the-job training at union construction sites, ensuring apprentices gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Program Length
Most apprenticeship programs at the CTC span four years, during which apprentices progressively develop their skills and competencies in their chosen trade.

Certifications & Career Opportunities
Upon successful completion of an apprenticeship, graduates receive a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion and achieve the status of Journey Level Tradesperson. This certification enhances employability in various sectors of the construction industry, both within New York City and nationally.
Program Requirements
- Must be at least 17 years old at the time of offered employment.
- Must possess a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof is required after selection and prior to indenture.
- Must be physically capable of performing the work of the trade without posing a direct threat to the safety of themselves or others.
Financial Aid & Support Services
The CTC provides its apprenticeship programs free of charge to eligible candidates, as they are jointly sponsored by the members and contributing signatory contractors of the New York City District Council of Carpenters. Additionally, apprentices have access to support services such as academic counseling and career placement assistance to help ensure their success both during and after the program.
