Apprentices enrolled through Local 525 operate under an “earn while you learn” model, allowing participants to build a stable income while gaining industry-recognized skills. As apprentices progress through the program and demonstrate increased skill and responsibility, wages increase according to a negotiated wage scale. This model eliminates student debt while providing a clear path to long-term career advancement.
Training focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects. Apprentices learn to work with a variety of materials, including steel, copper, plastic, and specialty piping systems. Instruction includes pipe layout, blueprint reading, welding and brazing techniques, system testing, safety procedures, and code compliance. Apprentices gain experience working on complex mechanical systems that support heating, cooling, water distribution, gas systems, and process piping.
Local 525 places a strong emphasis on safety, precision, and professionalism. Classroom instruction reinforces jobsite learning with technical theory, math applications, system design concepts, and industry standards.
