Plumbing Apprentice – Glenwood Springs, CO
Program Information
The Plumbing Apprentice role with MTech Mechanical in Glenwood Springs, Colorado offers a comprehensive, structured pathway into the plumbing trade through one of the state’s most respected mechanical contractors. Apprentices work directly under experienced plumbers, crew leaders, and field managers while progressing through a four-level apprenticeship model designed to build skills year after year. MTech Mechanical is known for its high standards, people-first culture, and extensive project portfolio across Colorado’s mountain and Western Slope regions—including Vail, Eagle, Aspen, Rifle, and Grand Junction. Apprentices will gain exposure to a broad range of commercial and residential plumbing systems while working on job sites throughout these areas.
During the first year, apprentices focus on developing foundational plumbing skills, learning safety protocols, becoming familiar with hand and power tools, and assisting journeymen with basic tasks. Responsibilities include material handling, cleaning, jobsite preparation, and performing entry-level plumbing labor under supervision. Apprentices must acquire mandatory tools for each stage and document approximately 2,000 hours of work experience. The program includes required participation in MTech’s in-house apprenticeship training classes and outside technical schooling when applicable.
As apprentices move into Levels 2 and 3 (12–36 months), they begin interpreting blueprints, preparing piping and fixtures, reading non-complex to advanced mechanical plans, assisting with layout for digging and core drilling, checking trench grades, and installing smaller plumbing systems with oversight. Apprentices continue acquiring tools required for each level, while documenting 4,000 to 6,000 cumulative hours of employment. This stage reinforces both technical skills and the ability to work independently on smaller tasks.
By Level 4 (36–48 months), apprentices are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of plumbing systems and code compliance while completing work according to MTech Mechanical standards. They learn heating and cooling design considerations, practice efficient labor and material management, and prepare for certification within the required jurisdiction. With 8,000 documented hours of on-the-job experience, apprentices are well-positioned to advance toward licensure and career opportunities within the company.
MTech Mechanical is highly regarded for its investment in employee development, offering numerous specialty training opportunities such as medical gas certifications, continuing education courses, vendor-specific training, CPR/First Aid, and professional development workshops. Apprentices benefit from a people-centered workplace culture emphasizing communication, safety, teamwork, and career progression. The company provides a wide range of projects—including healthcare facilities, higher education buildings, data centers, cleanrooms, multifamily housing, laboratories, and commercial buildings—giving apprentices exposure to diverse plumbing systems and technologies.
