Program Information

The Plumbing Apprentice position at Service Experts in Leesport, Pennsylvania, provides a structured and highly supportive entry point into the plumbing trade. As part of the Berkshire Mechanical division, apprentices receive hands-on training under the direct supervision of licensed journeyman plumbers and experienced technicians. Apprentices assist in assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of piping, heating, water, and drainage systems in both residential and commercial settings. On any given day, apprentices may handle tasks such as replacing defective pipes, repairing plumbing fixtures, diagnosing basic plumbing issues, and supporting more advanced work performed by licensed plumbers.

In addition to hands-on field tasks, apprentices learn vital trade techniques including cutting openings for piping, threading and bending pipe, soldering and brazing materials, assembling pipe sections, sealing joints, and testing systems for leaks. Exposure to stormwater, sanitary, and water system installation offers a broad understanding of the many areas within the plumbing field. Apprentices also gain experience maintaining work vehicles, organizing tools, and representing the company in a professional and ethical manner.

Safety is a major focus of the apprenticeship. The company emphasizes strict adherence to PPE requirements, safe tool operation, proper lifting techniques, and full compliance with OSHA standards. Program Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Training or experience in construction trades helpful
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use plumbing tools and equipment
• Strong math, measurement, and troubleshooting skills
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to climb ladders, work in attics or crawlspaces, and lift up to 100 pounds with assistance
• Ability to work in varied environments: hot, cold, wet, heights, tight spaces
• Strong communication skills and customer service mindset
