As an HVAC Service Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Service Technicians to assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC and environmental control systems. This role provides hands-on exposure to refrigeration theory, mechanical systems, controls, pipe fitting, and system diagnostics while emphasizing safety, professionalism, and customer satisfaction. Apprentices gain real-world experience in the field while being supported by structured training, advanced tools, and cutting-edge technology.

This position also offers eligibility for Trane’s highly regarded Commercial HVAC Technician Apprenticeship Program (TAP). The TAP program is a four-year, Nationally Registered Apprenticeship through the U.S. Department of Labor. Participants receive paid classroom instruction, paid on-the-job training, dedicated mentorship, progressive wage increases, and a nationally recognized credential upon completion. Graduates of the program advance into full HVAC Service Technician roles, creating a clear and reliable career pathway.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior Service Technicians with servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial HVAC equipment
  • Support system diagnostics by identifying issues, examining equipment, and planning repairs
  • Work with field technicians, project managers, and customers to understand installation and service requirements
  • Forecast potential job-site challenges and assist with material preparation and coordination
  • Use software tools, blueprints, and engineering specifications to support troubleshooting and repairs
  • Handle and maintain hand tools, company-issued equipment, and job-site materials responsibly
  • Consistently follow Trane Technologies safety policies and job-site safety standards
  • Maintain accountability for tools, equipment, and company assets

Qualifications

  • Ability to meet physical demands including lifting, climbing ladders, working on rooftops, and confined spaces

Work Environment

This is an on-site, field-based role involving work in commercial buildings and outdoor environments. Apprentices must be comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, and around mechanical and electrical equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
